I absolutely love this book. I rented the kindle edition to use for a course, however I think that I will be purchasing it to use as a reference. You learn by doing, which for me, is the best way to learn. Each concept is taught using illustrative lessons and this is what I most loved about this text. I highly recommend it for anyone just beginning web programming.
The textbook is very helpful, going into my web design class I didn't expect to have to use it too much, but after realizing the professor wasn't explaining anything at all, the textbook became my best friend, reading the chapters over and over again....must have read the book 10 times over during the semester...and came out with an A. If you're taking a web design class chances are you'll need this book (since you're reading my review!), or even if your course doesn't require this specific textbook it can still help you out!!
If you are looking for a DHTML text to walk you through HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript this will due. It was an optional textbook for a course I took. There are many texts out there; consider trying the library. I have used the text, it is formatted to proceed in order chapter-by-chapter with activities, which makes this a good book for the self taught.
This is a great book for learning, hands on, HTML and Javascript. I almost wish all books were laid out like this. The authors provide tons of hands on examples that take you from the basics to advanced HTML. The Javascript section is a little short but still good.The only reason I would cite that it does not get five stars is there are some typos and errors in some examples. Some of them are obvious once you understand the code, but it can be a drawback if you are unsure and learning.
Had everything I needed to learn how to make a website. The only problem is that this book is kinda out dated.
Easy to learn, best to use if you are taking an actual class. This is not a book you want to try to learn from on your own.

This edition is really good for the price, because the next edition costs much more. If you need it for one of your class, you'll be more than happy.
